The next chapter is “the origin story”

Following the successful launch of the adidas City Shop “Manila Hoops” t-shirt collection in collaboration with Filipino muralist and illustrator Jappy Agoncillo, adidas Philippines unveils the next chapter of its hyperlocal collaboration with the featured artist through the launch of DON Issue #3 “Origin History.” A special edition of NBA star Donovan Mitchell’s signature basketball shoe, the Philippines-designed colorway was released earlier this month.

Inspired by dynamic Filipino street style, Jappy’s love of superhero comics and the heroic origin story of three-time NBA All-Star Donovan Mitchell, the Filipino-designed colorway features unique elements that pay homage to the roots of Donovan and Jappy.

For example, there is an ode to the importance of tigers for Jappy and Donovan. With the animal being the signature of Jappy and Donovan’s college team, the Greenwich Country Day School Tigers, tiger stripes run across the heel of the shoe.

“At adidas Philippines, we know and appreciate the importance of being true to your roots,” said JD Cortez, Head of Communications and Sports Marketing at adidas Philippines. “Like our past Filipino-inspired projects and through collaborations like this, we are proud to give local artists like Jappy Agoncillo the platform to represent and illustrate the true essence of being Filipino beyond what the world already knows about us.”

The collaboration with Jappy continues adidas Philippines’ commitment to supporting Filipino designers through hyperlocal releases. The DON Issue #3 “Origin Story” is the fourth Filipino-designed adidas shoe, following the releases of Harden Vol. 5 “Manila Heritage” and Quiccs Forum by toy designer Juanito “Quiccs” Maiquez and the Ultraboost DNA City Pack by Gregg “Egg Fiasco” Guleserian.

The new DON Issue #3 “Origin Story” hit adidas stores across the Philippines and Southeast Asia on June 12th.
