“It’s just a lack of respect”

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (WAFB) – Some people really don’t have anything better to do.

The folks at ‘Another Sole Chance’ on Perkins Road just opened in September. And now they could be bankrupt for the start of the vacation because of a cheeky thief.

“It’s just a lack of respect, a lack of respect,” said Kaleb Cayette, co-owner of “Another Sole Chance”.

He and his two friends opened their new shoe store just two months ago.

“We specialize in high-end resale items like Air Jordans, Adidas Yeezys, Nike Dunk, things you can’t find in retail stores across the country,” Cayette explained.

They also sell t-shirts and popular game consoles. Cayette added that business was fine but everything changed on November 11 around 4 a.m.

“Last night, someone broke into our store. It’s sad. The guy actually walked in, he jumped over our door, went straight to a PS5, got an XBox, and he took some money out of our bag and walked out the back door, ”described Cayette.

The savage heist of the shoe store was caught by the store’s security cameras. The thief acted like Spider-Man, jumping over the protective grid after smashing the window with a stone. Then he picked up dozens of expensive shoes and more.

“Three business owners, local, young, trying to bring new things to Baton Rouge that Baton Rouge doesn’t have. And it’s just sad to see someone take that away from us and just try to come in and destroy our business, ”Cayette continued.

He said it was frustrating, not only that it was a new business, but also right before the holidays kicked into high gear.

“Holidays are fun. It’s about being happy, it’s about being happy, it’s about being with family and that right here, that brings the mood down, man, ”Cayette added.

Homeowners have insurance but are already planning improvements to their safety for the future.

“We’re going to have ceiling-to-floor folding gates on both sides inside and out to add extra security, so no one can break in,” Cayette said.

And store owners have a message for the responsible person (s).

“Well, I hope you guys are enjoying your PlayStation 5 and all the shoes you’ve run in and the money in hand, but that won’t happen again,” Cayette said.

The store owners took out all of their remaining inventory that was in the store just to be safe. The owners hope to reopen by Black Friday, but have noted that the heist could shut them down for perhaps a month.
