Ahead of its 10th anniversary, Iowa Distilling Co. celebrates with room for growth.

The Cumming, Iowa-based spirits maker this month opened a new 6,000-square-foot production facility at 4324 Alice Ave. next to his current home at 4349 Cumming Ave.

“We want to be that draw to Iowa, something (visitors) want to take home and share,” said Kyle Doyle, president of Iowa Distilling Co ..

The distillery currently operates in a century-old brick building that will remain open as a craft cocktail bar, tasting room and event space. Des Moines-based construction and design company Shyft Collective is leading the project, which is expected to take five to eight months to open in 2022.

Kurt Hagge, architect of the Shyft collective; Tom Becker, Mayor of Cumming; Kyle Doyle, president of the Iowa Distilling Co.; and Eric Simon, vice president of operations for Shyft Collective, inaugurate a new 6,000 square foot production facility in Cumming, Iowa.

Launched in 2012 by Todd Dunkel, Iowa Distilling Co. produces nine labels ranging from vodka to bourbon to moonlight. Doyle took over the operation five years ago.

Doyle oversees Iowa Distillery Co.’s efforts to sell its products in Iowa’s 99 counties, and he views the distillery’s growth as an investment in the state and community of Cumming.

“We put ‘Iowa’ in our name because we’re proud of it,” Doyle said. “There aren’t a lot of communities in the state that can say they’re impacting all 99 counties in Iowa.”

This effort paid off as the distillery won the title of Warren County Producer / Manufacturer of the Year in 2019 and Cityview’s Best Local Distillery in 2020. The Prairie Fire label took first place for whiskey and Steel Drum Rum won the award for best rum.

Kyle Doyle of the Iowa Distilling Company is asking for feedback from RAGBRAI Pre-Ride riders on what he should serve during RAGBRAI on Tuesday, June 4, 2019.

Consumers can find Iowa Distillery Co. spirits in all 99 counties where alcohol is sold and at Cumming’s Craft Cocktail Bar. Bartenders at the salon are keen to answer customer questions and offer service suggestions, Doyle said. The show also offers Doyle and his staff the opportunity to connect with the community and bounce customer ideas.

“We are working hard to move from the Iowa Distilling Co. to iowa distillation company, ”Doyle said.
