Murray can’t wear a wedding ring over his coat, so he always ties it to his laces for secure storage, but on this occasion he seems to have forgotten she was there. Once world No. 1, he called for the safe return of his ring.
Murray shares his tragic story in an Instagram video, saying:
“I left my tennis shoes there and it was 38 degrees Celsius, so the shoes were very sweaty, damp and smelly.
“When I got back to the hotel, I decided I needed some air to dry my shoes a bit. I didn’t want to leave the balcony in my room as there is no balcony and it smells like the room.
Since her wedding in 2015, Murray has tied lace-up wedding rings for secure storage.

“So I thought about putting my shoes under the car, inflating it and letting it dry overnight. When I got back to the car in the morning, my shoes were gone.
“The tournament tennis shoes were stolen so I had to go to a local pro store to buy another shoe. It’s not the end of the world, but it’s not ideal.
“As I was getting ready to train, the physiotherapist said, ‘Where’s your wedding ring? And I was like, ‘Oh no’.
“We can’t play wedding rings by hand, so I tie them to my shoes when I play. Needless to say, I’m reading a bad book at home because my wedding ring was stolen, so I’d like to find it.

“So if anyone can share that or have any clues as to where it is, that would be very helpful if I could get it back or get to the bottom of it.”

At the BMW Open in Munich, the first tournament after the wedding, Murray tied a ring to the laces of an adidas trainer.
When he won the tournament, they served as a lucky charm, and then he said, “I wouldn’t lose it if it was tied to my shoelaces. I will put it back as soon as the game is over. If I put it in my bag, I lost it. “
